The company best known for its electric cars, have taken their first steps to becoming an energy provider in the UK. The company made a notice of application for an electricity generation licence which states:  “Tesla Motors Limited hereby gives notice that it has made an application to the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority for an electricity licence.” 

The application was lodged last week with Ofgem, for a licence to generate electricity to supply "any premises" in Great Britain.


No further information has been made available as to why the company has applied for the licence.
